CHINA DILEMMA BETWEEN PURSUING HIGHER ECONOMICS AND ESCALATING POLLUTION DUE TO THE INDUSTRIALIZATION

Yih Jie:

It is very important for China to improve their economy. With a better economy, the people's lives will be better. However due to the industrialisation, pollution increases. They may have a better life but at the same time suffer living in a polluted environment. Dr Guy McPherson said " If you really think the environment is less important than the economy, try holding your breath while you count your money." Therefore I feel that although economy growth is important, the environment is equally important.

Eugene:

China's dilemma on whether to continue industrializing is understandable as China might want to improve their economy to make their country richer, however if that causes too much pollution especially when they have a large population it would provide to lots and lots of damage to the Earth causing to speed up global warming. However, I believe they can snap out of this dilemma if they understand the way to go about it by investing money on renewable sources of energy especially with the abundance of land they have. By doing so, they can improve their economy and at the same time cover their extra pollution by using renewable sources of energy. I think if they can invest in renewable sources of energy it would be helping their economy improve too as less fossil fuels would have to be bought and taxes can be reduced thus the people in the country would be happy too.

Si Min :

While China is pursuing for a higher economic, the country start to have more and more pollution problems as they want to improve their economy and let their citizens have a better standard of living. However, I think that they can slower down the pollution by investing on renewable energy. Then they can lessen their damage to the environment and improve their economy at the same time. ITS A WIN-WIN SITUATION!

Wen Qing:

There was a time, as China began opening to the world in the early 1980s, when the sign of success was for a family to have a bicycle and electric light. The streets of Beijing, the country's capital, teemed with cyclists. Few cars filled the wide avenues. Hazy days meant winter winds had blown desert sands into the skies over the capital.
Today, those same streets are jammed with the new sign of China's upwardly mobile middle class: automobiles. Beijing has 20 million residents, five million cars, and a huge pollution problem. And the thick soup that obscures the sun is man-made.
Power plants burn coal to produce electricity. Cars pump their fumes into the air. And, in nearby Heibei province, steel mills add to the toxic soup that settles over the Chinese capital, particularly in winter.
Pollution in china is getting worse, however, China is going through industrialization, making it very difficult for them to conserve the environment while rapidly developing themselves. Even though China is going through urbanization, they do still try their best to also save the environment. After researches on the Internet, I found out that china held alot of projects which aims are to protect the environment. These projects reduces some of the amount of greenhouse gases produced into the atmosphere, but it's not enough to prevent hazy days in China.
I feel that china needs to put more emphasis to their people about how important it is to protect the earth. That way, the Chinese who understands will try their best to save the environment (e.g. Installing solar panels)and at the same time, china will also be able to develop. I also think that it will be better if China slows down their economic growth and focus more on protecting the environment. That way, pollution will decrease and at the same time China can still develop.

Mingyi :

There is a need for china to industrialize but at the same time, the negative effects of industrializing and urbanizing is the increased effects of global warming and accelerated rate of pollution to the environment. As China's economy is improving, the number of factories in China and the number of automobiles on the roads are constantly increasing. Although this is a sign of  China's economy improving, it can produce a lot of harmful greenhouse gases that will worsen the rate of global warming. I personally feel that China can make full use of their abundance of land to build wind turbines or dams that are sources of renewable energy and thus reduce the amount of greenhouse gases produced

TIME TO KNOW MORE ABOUT CHINA'S HISTORY !!!

Mingyi (Great Wall Of China) :

The Great Wall of China is a majestic landform that is built many years ago. I am very impressed that even in the past, with no technology, machines or even robots to help them, China is able to build such a magnificent structure. However, many people lost their lives in the process of building the structure as it was strenuous and dangerous. A part of the Great Wall of China is first built by Qin Shi Huang, who is the first Emperor of China and the wall was to protect China from attacks from tribes like the Manchus. It was finished in the Ming Dynasty. I feel that it is very important to China as it is part of their past Chinese heritage and it is one of the Seven wonders in the world and is also one of the famous tourist attractions when you visit China, Bei Jing.

Wen Qing (Bird nest):

Bird's Nest is situated in Olympic Green Village, Chaoyang District. It was designed as the main stadium of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The Olympic events of track and field, football, gavelock, weight throw and discus were held there. Since October, 2008, after the Olympics ended, it has been opened as a tourist attraction. Now, it's the center of international or domestic sports competition and recreation activities. It is designed uniquely like how a birds nest would look like. The form of the stadium looks like a big nest which embraces and nurses human beings. Also it looks rather like a cradle bearing human beings'  hope of the future. I think it meant alot to the Chinese as it is where the Olympics were held, one of the biggest event in the world. And China also hired foreign architects to design the stadium. Birds nest is certainly worth visiting as it allows you to wonder which aspects of the structure are functional and which have been included for appearance alone!

Yih Jie (Tian an men) :

The tian an men protest is caused by many issues including the death of Hu Yaobang and political corruption. I think that the way the government reacted to the protestors is very brutal. The protests were forcibly suppressed by hardline leaders who ordered the military to enforce martial law in the country's capital. Troops with assault rifles and tanks inflicted casualties on unarmed civilians. The number of deaths even ranges from a few hundred to a few thousand. This shows that China is not acceptive of other ideas and will do anything to stop it even if it means to use extreme measures like harming or killing the people. The protestors were defenseless and China could have used a better solution instead of just using violence.

Eugene (Great Wall Of China) :
The Great Wall of China has became a tourist attraction ever since it had been built finish and the dynasties ended. It felt majestic as it was so long and it holds great history behind the China's history, the wall was actually in the first place not built as a tourist attraction but was built as a wall of defense against their foes. It is located in Beijing and I believe that the Chinese are all really proud of this creation as it is one of the places that are a must see when going to China. I feel that this creation has helped the Chinese in many ways not only in defending in the past but now, it still helps by leading as a tourists attraction in China. I think that we should learn to treasure one of the many artifacts that has been left in the world for such a long time as many have been destroyed just for our own purposes. This way, tradition would always be remembered and kept within us.

Si Min ( Chiang Kai Shek) :

Chiang Kai Shek was a Chinese politicL and military leader who served as the leader of the Republic of China between 1928 and 1975. He was also the Commandant of the Kuomintang's Whampoa Military Academy and take over Sun Yat Sen's place as a leader of Kuomintang after Sun Yat Sen died in 1925. I felt that  Chiang Kai Shek isn't as good as compared to Sun Yat Sen. As before Sun Yat Sen Passed away, he didn't create lots of trouble and even tried to have reforms to modernize China. However, Chiang Kai Shek have wars like Shanghai Massacre. Even though Chiang Kai Shek has created lots of trouble ,I think we should learn from his leadership skills as he had lead his troops very well into the war.
