In Singapore, it is highly unlikely that you will find beggars lining the streets or see starving children walking the pavements, scrounging for food.
Families that experience poverty , usually their children are often not able to do better than their parents due to lack of access to knowledge and educational support. For example, the child would quit school to work and supplement the family’s income, simply trying to put food on the table.
And begging in Singapore is illegal , so they are often found selling packets of tissues outside food centres. Or spending the night on benches near their jobs to save the transport fare home. Or collecting empty soft drink can from trash bins.
In Singapore , the poverty rate is 28% last year . And to be out of the poverty class , the family need to have an income of at least above $1500.
